Currently I own or co-own about a dozen sites, the main one being Monsters and Critics, which is an entertainment news and review site. I also have some arcade sites, a tech site and a few others in various states of update.
I’ve had this domain for a while with the intention of starting a site where I could share my experience of running a few medium sized websites in the hope it might be useful to anyone trying to get started and hopefully also learning from some of you.
Over the years I’ve dealt with hundreds of companies, dozens of staff, numerous scripts, countless problems and met loads of great people online. I’ve also made a good living, though these are now tough times for any business.
I’m hoping to knock out a few posts on web hosting, advertising, marketing, content, staff, legal issues, new start-ups for websites…you name it, if its to do with web sites I’ll probably have something to say about it. I’ll also put up pages with links to resources from hosting to advertising that I’ve used over the years and anything else I can think of.
I’ll probably get tiresome pretty fast so I’ll also ask some of the people who I do business with to guest post on specific issues like security, web design, writing for websites etc.
I can’t promise that it will make much sense or even point you in the right direction. But maybe I can point you away from mistakes I’ve made and perhaps have some interesting discussions or generate some ideas.
I’m not a writer and nor am I promising you ‘An Adsense Gold Mine in 30 Days’ or any easy route to success but I do know a little about a lot and sometimes that’s just what you need when running a site.
Running a site or network of sites has never been more demanding, competitive or interesting than it is now. I hope that I’ll you will find something useful amongst my ramblings!
